Creative Arts Therapy groups
The following list contains some of the groups I offer:
Art psychotherapy: Psychotherapy group that uses art as a method for getting clients to discover personal growth through the art therapy process. Art materials are primarily used with occasional use of music. The emphasis is on the process of creating the work and thoughts and ideas that the client develops in connection with the created art work.
Art as Therapy: Less intense group that operates on the notion that the act of creating art work is therapeutic in it's self. Clients are encouraged to experiment with a variety of art materials and the focus is on the art making process, not the end product. Clients are reminded not to judge themselves or their art. Relaxation techniques and music are also incorporated into some groups.
Art appreciation: This allows clients who enjoy looking and talking about art to participate in the art process. An artist is discussed at every group. Clients view the art work and talk about the meaning the art work has to themselves, what feelings and emotions the art connects them with and educates them on art history. Clients can bring in an artist to talk about or the therapist will provide one.
Creative writing: Clients are encouraged to express themselves through the written word. Some directives include writing poems, writing thoughts, writing short stories and also reading activities. The goal of this group is to teach clients away to release stress and anxiety through writing and journaling.
Music appreciation: Enables clients to participate in a therapeutic environment with the use of music. This group consists of sing-alongs, learning about musicians, playing musical instruments and the therapist playing musical instruments for the clients.
