Conference Reviews
In January I attended a great lecture at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. The School of Visual Arts, also known as SVA, has a free lecture series that takes place about once a month. They also have workshops that cost non-alumni $20, a very reasonable rate, and CEU's are given out at both lectures and workshops. The one lecture that is a must see for all creative arts therapists is A Space in Sri Lanka: Creative Art Therapy in a Sri Lankan Orphanage presented by Ashley Dorr, MA, ATR-BC.
Ashley worked in an Orphanage for about two weeks and presented a slide show of the work she did with the children, a brief history of the Sri Lankan culture and great personal reflections. One of the outstanding touches on this presentation was when Ashley would read entries from the journal she kept while working with the children. She honestly admitted some mistakes that she made along the way and meaningful lessons.
If you ever have the opportunity to hear Ashley Dorr speak about her experience in Sri Lanka I strongly recommend you attend this presentation.
